The Two-Day Immersive Event Supports Feline Advocacy and Celebrates All-Things-Kitty-Cat
PORTLAND (JUNE 2019) – Cat lovers, get ready to paw-ty! POP Cats, the popular feline-themed festival is bringing its cats + pop + arts formula to the Portland Oregon Convention Center the weekend of September 28-29, 2019. The first-ever cat-centric festival in Portland will create a fun-filled interactive universe where feline fanatics can play, adopt, shop, create and learn — all while supporting Portland-area cat advocacy organizations. POP Cats Portland Presented by Nulo Pet Food will feature dozens of artists and vendors showcasing cat-inspired art and merchandise, interactive cat playgrounds, music, cat-tails, and a stellar lineup of feline experts and influencers including Kitten Lady (Hannah Shaw) and iAmMoshow, the Portland-based cat rapper. Tickets for the family-friendly event are on sale now.
Created by siblings Edgar Alexander and Johana Flores, POP Cats was founded in 2017 to raise awareness of feline welfare and celebrate the popular pets through an experience that offers both entertainment and advocacy. The debut event in Miami drew cat lovers (and their cats!), cat experts, artists and curious spectators from all over the world. POP Cats then expanded to Austin in 2018 and 2019. The Austin festival drew thousands of cats fans together, raised funds for ten Central Texas Cat Organizations and created a truly unique environment for cat lovers to gather and celebrate. Now, POP Cats is bringing its cat-lover paradise to Portland.
“Portland is not only a huge cat loving city but also has an electrifying arts scene and a free-spirited community,” says co-founder Edgar Alexander. “POP Cats’ mission and this town are a perfect match. We have been waiting for so long to take this festival to the Rose City, and we’re so excited it’s finally happening.”
POP Cats Portland will feature interactive “cattractions” including cat playgrounds for kids and adults, cat adoptions, a two-day lineup of cat expurrts and influencers including popular kitten rescuer Kitten Lady (Hannah Shaw), and internet sensation, Portland resident and cat rapper iAmMoshow as a special musical guest along with his cat DJ Ravioli. Their hip, inspirational digital content displays the importance of taking action in the community to improve the lives of our beloved feline friends. Additional programming includes workshops and panels such as Cat Photography 101; Keeping Your Indoor Cat Happy; Cattifying Your Home for Senior Cats; Travel Cats with Emily Miethner; adult and kids “cattitude” costume contests, and more.
A number of feline-friendly Portland-area non-profit organizations will participate in the event, and part of the proceeds from ticket sales will fund their ongoing rescue and welfare efforts. Participating organizations include Cat Adoption Team, Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, Oregon Humane Society, Animal Aid and the Pixie Project.
